Safe interconnection of complex machines and systems

Machines and systems can be easily interconnected withsamos®PRO from Wieland Electric– currently the smallest modular safety control on the automation market – and the dedicated bus systemsamos®NET. Machines and systems can be easily interconnected withsamos®PRO from Wieland Electric– currently the smallest modular safety control on the automation market – and the dedicated bus systemsamos®NET. This is in high demand for distributed systems, e.g. in intralogistics and packaging engineering, and also for robot cells.

Complex automation solutions are often designed in a modular way and distributed over a large area. With the safety functions controlled by various distributed safety controls, consistent communication has thus far only been possible via non-safe field buses or via Industrial Ethernet. Safe signals can now be safely For the trade press SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2010 November, 23– 25, 2010 Key word: Safe interconnection of machines and systems withsamos®NET 2 Press Release: 2010-11-264 transmitted, processed and evaluated within a machine network via thesamos®NET bus system. The network can have a length of up to 100 meters. The additional time-consuming wiring of safety sensors to a central safety control is no longer necessary. Up to four completesamos®PRO systems can be safely interconnected with thesamos®NET bus system, i.e. a total of 384 safe inputs and 192 safe outputs is available. The interconnected devices exchange safety-relevant signals directly and without additional modules. For safe interconnection, the user only needs to install the new SP-SCON-NET controller in thesamos®PRO control. The safe bus system enables parallel configuration and commissioning of different system parts. This reduces processing times and operational downtimes and leads to increased productivity.

Configuration and diagnosis ofsamos®NET projects is carried out centrally via one of the interconnectedsamos®PRO systems using thesamos®PLAN programming tool (release V1.3). In addition, samos®PLAN V1.3 also offers many new safe function modules which supplement the wide variety already on offer. All known and established functions such as hardware configuration, logic editor, offline simulation, online diagnosis and forcing functions are still available. The modularsamos®PRO safety control already offers a wide range of gateways which can be used to integrate the system into the Profibus-DP, Profinet IO, Ethernet/IP, Modbus/TCP and CANopen field bus systems / Ethernet networks. Further gateways will soon follow. The gateways can transmit more then 50 Bytes of system data bi-directionally between a PLC or HMI and thesamos®PRO safety control, and thus ensure extremely fast and comprehensive diagnosis and visualization of control data. Thesamos®PRO gateways are of course configured and integrated into the corresponding networks usingsamos®PLAN, 3 Press Release: 2010-11-264 and it is possible to simultaneously use two different gateways in one system without any problems.

samos®PRO modular safety controls interconnected viasamos®NET meet the requirements for SIL 3 according to IEC 61508, SILCL 3 according to EN 62061 and PL e (Category 4) according to EN ISO 13849-1.
